Answers:
Why must I e-file this year?
The State of Ohio has mandated that professional tax preparers e-file their clients starting with 2009 returns.

Will all my returns be e-filed?
Only Federal and Ohio returns will be e-filed. City returns will be sent to you for signature and mailing as usual.

Should I be concerned with my information being sent electronically?
No. All electronic files are encrypted. It is similar to on-line banking. E-filing has been successfully and safely used for almost 10 years now.

How does it work? What will I receive and what do I need to do?
Upon completion of your return, you will be sent a package that includes a bound copy for your files, Form 8879, payment vouchers (if needed), and city returns. You will return the Form 8879 to us, sign and mail city returns, and send money due to IRS or Ohio if required.

What is Form 8879?
This is the form that authorizes us to file your return. If you approve of the return sent to you, then sign Form 8879 and return it to Kuhns & Associates. We cannot file your return until we receive this form. You can mail it in the envelope provided, fax, email as a PDF, or hand-deliver it to our office.

How do I know that my e-filed returns are really filed?
We receive notifications from the agencies when a return is accepted. We will email or call you when we have received notifications from IRS and Ohio.

What if I have money due with an e-filed return?
You will receive a voucher with your package that includes Form 8879, your bound copy, and any city returns. Simply mail your payment with the voucher before April 15th.

Can I receive my refund electronically?
Yes. You provide us your bank name, routing information, and account information. The information is found on the bottom of a paper check (not a deposit slip). The information will be included on your Form 1040 and will also be transmitted to Ohio. We will shred any written account information after it is entered into your return.

Can I have an electronic copy of my return?
Yes. We can email to you with password protection.

What if I do not want to e-file? Is there a way to opt out?
We will provide you with a signature form that will be sent to the State of Ohio. No additional forms are needed to paper file your Federal return.
